LASER COMPONENTS Detector Group – Avalanche Photodiodes (APD)

TODO

APDs

The LASER COMPONENTS Detector Group in Arizona has been producing high-quality Si and InGaAs APDs with diameters from 80 µm to 3.0 mm since 2004. The company's process chain includes all work steps from the development of semiconductor structures to component manufacturing.

The InGaAs APDs are characterized by high efficiency and a good signal-to-noise ratio in the NIR range, while Si APDs cover the entire wavelength range between 260 nm and 1100 nm and are ideal for detecting weak light intensities.

InGaAs

Our production facility in the US state of Arizona, the LASER COMPONENTS Detector Group, has been manufacturing custom InGaAs PIN photodiodes since 2013. These inhouse developed and manufactured panchromatic components cover the short-wave infrared (SWIR) as well as visible wavelengths. Our InGaAs PIN photodiodes can be found in spectroscopy, laser monitoring and temperature measurement as well as in numerous other application areas.

Lead Salt

In 2015, LASER COMPONENTS Detector Group expanded its product range to include PbS and PbSe detectors for infrared applications. Since then, the company has strived to become a leader in this field with customer-driven advancements of the proven technology. Lead salt detectors offer high sensitivity at room temperature and are significantly more cost effective than InGaAs detectors especially at large detector areas. LASER COMPONENTS continues to see a large market for these established detectors and, together with numerous partners, has successfully lobbied for an extension of the RoHS exemptions for PbX components.

Pyros

In 2020, the LASER COMPONENTS Detector Group took over the development and manufacture of pyroelectric detectors which had previously been covered by a separate company within the group. Since then, all detector technology activities have been consolidated under the same roof in Chandler, Arizona.

We use both LiTaO3 and DLaTGS as detector materials for our pyroelectric components. LiTaO3 detectors are primarily used in industrial gas analysis, medical and process applications, and flame detection. Main applications of DLaTGS detectors are FTIR spectroscopy and detection in the THz range.
