Title of Presentation:
Novel Optical Coating Techniques for High Power Laser Material Processing Applications

26 March 2025 • 3:30-3:45 PM PST

Abstract

To keep pace with the trend towards higher powers in material processing applications, the laser optics used must continue to evolve to offer the highest reflectivity and laser damage threshold with the lowest thermal drift.

Optics are an essential component in all laser processing machines, from cutting and welding to additive manufacturing. The optics are responsible for ensuring that the high-quality laser beam reaches the workpiece from the source while minimising any effect on beam quality.  In addition, process monitoring is increasingly becoming a must for reliable and traceable production orders. High-precision diagnostic optics have become a key technology in many online monitoring processes where the interaction of the laser beam with the material is observed and analysed.

In this talk LASER COMPONENTS explores how the production of optical coatings keeps pace with the increasing demands of laser material processing applications, through the selection and optimisation of different coating technologies, the use of online process monitoring and the development of novel techniques such as annealing of the optical coating.

Laser optics

Biconcave lens Biconcave lens
A substrate is the basic component of a laser optic. Plano substrates, curved substrates for mirrors, lenses for laser and sensor applications, and prisms are all available for delivery. A coating can be applied to all of these substrates.
Laser Windows Laser Windows
Optical windows in different Versions for beam transmission or as protective Window.
Gaussian Mirrors Gaussian Mirrors
Optical mirrors used in Laser Resonators. They are also known as Optical Cavity Mirrors.
Dichroic Mirrors Dichroic Mirrors
Optical laser mirrors for high power laser applications. Customized for industrial, medical, and academical use.
Polarization-independent Beam Splitter Polarization-independent Beam Splitter
High power beam splitters with dielectric coatings.
Polarization Optics Polarization Optics
Separate s-pol and p-pol light of your laser.
Brewster Plates Brewster Plates
Retardation plates, also referred to as waveplates, produce a phase shift, the principle of which is based on polarization.
Multispot element DOE Multispot element DOE
Diffractive optical elements, DOEs, were designed for applications with lasers and high-power lasers. Used as multi-spot beam splitters, in beam shaping, and beam profile modification, such elements offer endless possibilities in different application fields.
