Ring Laser Ensures Robust Pipes

How can you ensure that the pipes of high-pressure pipelines have a perfectly round cross-section and thus withstand the highest stresses during operation? For this task, we developed the FLEXPOINT® Radial laser module with a ring-shaped beam. The laser light is directed onto a cone-shaped mirror, which reflects it evenly in all directions and achieves 80% homogeneity at a power of 50 mW. This enables a surveying device to create a detailed 3D model of the inside of the pipe, on which irregularities as small as 50 µm can be easily detected.
