A supplement to the existing range of TO packaged pulsed laser diodes (PLDs) is a new range of fiber coupled PLDs. The fiber used typically has 100µm core diameter.
An additional benefit of pigtailed PLDs is the resulting homogeneous output beam profile. This is an advantage when using optics following the fiber. The effect of many modes is reduced within the fiber, which would otherwise be imaged by the optics.
This range of new fiber coupled pulsed laser diodes can be used in high resolution range finding systems.
