LASER COMPONENTS uses mostly N-BK7 and fused silica (Q1, C7980) for its high quality lenses and plano substrates in laser applications, although special glass such as sapphire or flint glass is also available.
For LASER COMPONENTS "laser quality" refers to a surface figure of l/10 and a polish of the highest grade (N-BK7 and fused silica). If such high quality is deemed unnecessary, "normal quality" lenses and protective glasses (B270 and borofloat) are available at a lower cost. For both quality levels plano convex, plano concave, biconvex, and biconcave lenses are available.
The table shows the various levels of quality; each optic has a diameter of 1.0". The same goes for polarizers, beam splitters, and other optical elements.
In-house coatings can be applied to all optics. With twenty years of experience in in-house production LASER COMPONENTS can guarantee the best quality with the highest damage thresholds. Hard dielectric coatings are offered in the wavelength range from 193 nm to 5000 nm. When applying anti-reflection coatings to lenses, the customer has the choice between U-AR and V-AR for a remaining reflectivity of either R < 0.1% or R < 0.2%, respectively. The wide-band BBAR coatings have a remaining reflectivity of R < 0.4% and cover a larger wavelength range.
Quick delivery times play a decisive role, which is why a wide selection of substrates with and without coatings are in stock and available immediately.
Description | Typical Values "Laser Quality" | Typical Values "Normal Quality" |
Surface figure | 3/0.2 (Lambda/10) | 3/2 (Lambda) bis 3/0.5 (Lambda/4) |
Cleanliness (Polishing Quality) | 5/4 x 0.025, corresponds to scratch-dig 10-5 <><><><> polish | 5/4 x 0.25, corresponds to scratch-dig <><><> polish |
Damage Threshold | Very high - some tens of J/cm² for 10 ns pulses, almost no scratches (=dispersion centers) | Usually not guaranteed |
Typical Application | Internal optics, primarily for high power lasers, especially in the cavity, such as with mirror coatings and output couplers | External optics for low power lasers or lasers requiring lower beam quality, such as with external lenses and protective glasses |
