Combatting Coronavirus, COVID-19 with Innovation and Ingenuity

The W.H.O. recently declared Coronavirus, COVID-19 a pandemic, with many organizations and companies looking to find a way to help protect the population from contracting it. One such company and leader in UV-C LED emitter arrays, is the U.S. based manufacturer, Bolb, Inc.

The emitter arrays provide germicidal light output between 1.2 W and 2.5 W, effectively inactivating antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as MRSA and now, the dangerous COVID-19. The newly built Huoshenan Hospital, in Wuhan, the sprawling capital of Central China’s Hubei province, with a population of 11.08 million people, has implemented and deployed this advanced technology to decontaminate nurses and doctors upon exiting the Coronavirus isolation ward in their epidemic-proof, but now compromised,  protective hazmat personal protection equipment.

It is a timely development given global public health officials continue to sound a piercing alarm concerning the unabated rise in Anti-Microbial Resistant Pathogens, commonly known as superbugs, states Bolb, Inc.  According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 3 million antibiotic-resistant infections occur in the US each year, and more than 47,800 people die as a result. The US Military is going to use a lot of mobile isolation tents that will require simple fast non-chemical disinfection solutions. In addition, Governor Cuomo of N.Y. stated in a recent article in the New York Times, the following: “We believe the use of active duty Army Corps personnel would not violate federal law because this is a national disaster. Doing so still won’t provide enough intensive care beds, but it is our best hope. In short: Localize testing, federalize shutdowns and task the Army Corps of Engineers to expand hospital capacity.”

Healthcare workers get exposed to virus inactivation UV-C light for approximately 30 seconds, modifying the infectious single stand RNA, rendering the pathogen harmless. In addition, the hazmat suit protects them from the UV-C radiation, ensuring no direct danger to heath care workers. More importantly, such disinfection practice protects the occupants in safe zones and innocent citizens waiting patiently in their cars for testing from hazmat suit sourced cross contamination. With the help of Bolb, Inc. and LASER COMPONENTS USA, the spread of this virus may be shorter lived due to the expert technologies offered by leading industry companies such as these.
