Fiber Cores Enriched with OH
The fiber core of UV-Vis fibers always consists of OH-enriched fused silica. Silica or a hard cladding is used as the cladding material. Accordingly, the optical fibers have a numerical aperture of 0.22 (silica) or 0.37 (hard clad). In the case of optical fibers for the transmission of high power, an additional low-index coating with a numerical aperture of 0.37 is usually added. It guarantees reliable power transmission even with severe bends. In addition, UV-Vis fibers can also be used to guide small quantities of cladding modes.
To protect against mechanical influences, the entire fiber is surrounded by an additional layer of Tefzel, acrylate, polyimide, or nylon.
Areas of Application:
- Data transmission
- Sensor technology
- Lighting
- Power transmission
High-OH Hard-Clad Fibers
The cladding of this version consists of a solid polymer. The fibers are available with core diameters between 200 µm and 1000 µm and can be used in a temperature range between -65°C and +125°C without damage.
High-OH Quartz-Clad Fibers
Both the core and the cladding of these fibers are made of quartz glass. The core diameter is between 50 µm and 1000 µm. Some versions can be used at temperatures of up to +300°C.
