High Power Laser Fiber Cables Active/Passive Cooling

High-End Technology for Industrial Laser Applications.

These high-performance fiber cables allow for efficient laser transmission with powers of 200 W and more. Their advanced cooling system prevents overheating while at the same time enhancing stability and fiber lifespan. Covering a broad range of wavelengths and providing superior beam quality, they are ideally fit for industrial applications such as laser cutting, welding, cleaning, and soldering. In all these areas, they offer outstanding beam quality.

Reliable and Efficient Transmission of High Laser Powers

These efficient high-performance fiber cables support power levels of 200 W (@ 200 µm) to 450 W and more, depending on the fiber diameter. They can be used for almost the entire optical wavelength spectrum (300-1900 nm) and are therefore ideally designed for many different industrial applications such as laser cutting, welding, cleaning and soldering. Across all these areas, they deliver excellent beam quality. Their bare-fiber design completely eliminates adhesives, preventing the fibers from burning off and ensuring maximum durability. The modular design supports both active and passive cooling, making it suitable for a wide range of energy and thermal management requirements. 

 

Modular system for efficient heat management 

Depending on the application, the cables are available with active or passive cooling. The innovative water cooling system of the active version ensures optimum heat dissipation for high-performance applications. The heat generated in the fiber is dissipated via a heat sink made of stainless steel or copper. Distilled water flows around this element, keeping the operating temperature evenly at up to 35 °C. Around 30 liters of water flow through the cooling device every hour, preventing the fiber from overheating and thus extending its service life. The ideal solution for demanding industrial laser processes. The passive version without water cooling offers a reliable, cost-effective alternative for laser outputs of up to 130 W (60 W @200 µm). 

 

ModeStrip technology prevents dangerous cladding modes 

LASER COMPONENTS’ own ModeStrip technology prevents the build-up of disruptive cladding modes occur, thus offering long-term protection against thermal damage and improved beam stability. Both cable variants are optionally equipped with SMA or D80 connectors.

What is the maximum power handling of the high-power fiber cables?

The maximum power depends on the fiber diameter. For 200 µm-fibers, the maximum power of the active, water-cooled version is at 200 W while the passive version can handle up to 60 W. These limits can be exceeded using larger fiber diameters.

  1. ModeStrip Technology makes sure that disturbing and dangerous cladding waves are filtered out. It increases the life span of a fiber and prevent it from burning. 
  2. A heat sink made of stainless steel or copper collects heat from the fiber and dissipates it into the surrounding air. This helps the cables deliver powers up to 130 W. 
  3. In the active version, a water-cooling jacket is situated around the cooling element. Each hour, 30 liters of distilled water flow around the cooling element and add additional cooling potential to allow laser powers of 200 W and more depending on the fiber diameter.
