Photline Technologies, a supplier of lithium niobate (LiNbO3) based modulation solutions, introduces the MXPE-LN series, a family of intensity modulators with extinction ratio superior to 40 dB.
Conventional intensity modulators offer about 20 dB of extinction ratio, a sufficient performance for most of fibre communication applications. However, a growing number of applications, more often using light pulses, require an extinction ratio of more than 30 dB. Pulse shaping prior optical amplification, lidar based sensing systems, Brillouin scattering based fibre sensors are just a few examples of applications where MXPE-LN modulators prove themselves as key devices.
The 40 dB extinction ratio of MXPE modulators is achieved thanks to the combination of a proprietary waveguide design (patent pending) and of Photline proton exchange waveguide process.
