At the Sensor+Test 2010 trade show last month, Dexter Research Center introduced a low-cost module for non-contact temperature measurement with integrated ASIC.
The MD-0003 module, which is housed in a TO-5 housing, utilises the SMBus with 2 wires. This setup allows up to 100 sensors to be linked to each other.
This component is available for 3 V and 5 V applications. The measurement range spans from –70°C to +310°C. In the interval from 0°C to +50°C a repeatability of 0.5K is achieved. The rate of emission can be adjusted externally. A calibration by the manufacturer is stored in the ASIC.
All data apply to thermal equilibrium. The sensor is available on a standard basis without imaging optics with a fan angle of 90°.
The MD-0004 evaluation board is available on an optional basis. It is controlled using a USB interface and a PC. Simple test software comes with the set.
