IR optics requires durability to withstand the extremely hard environments of infra-red optical systems. LASER COMPONENTS can now apply diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings to functional elements. Not only does this coating exhibit anti-reflection properties but it is extremely mechanically stable and particularly resistant to wear.
Silicon and Germanium based components are coated for the wavelength ranges from 3-5 µm and 8-12 µm. We also offer custom solutions for customer specified designs.
Hybrid-DLC Coatings
Recently developed Hybrid-DLC coatings combine lasting resistance with improved transmission compared to a common dielectric coating.
Owing to this advanced technology it makes it possible to minimise internal coating tensions and warrant the durability and adhesive power in accordance with such established testing standards as TS1888 (Windscreen-Wiper Test). This technology is available in two wavelength ranges, MWIR and LWIR.
Durability Test
The durability of the DLC coatings is tested by equipment designed solely for this purpose: the so-called TS 1888 P5.4.3 wiper test. This allows us to simulate high mechanical wear of the coatings to test their durability and compliance with this regulation. The effect of the wiper test is demonstrated in the above images.
