As well as standard and ATEX versions of hermetic feedthroughs, which are specially designed for explosive environment according to European norm NFEN 60079, LASER COMPONENTS can supply singlemode or multimode in-line or receptacle hermetic feedthroughs for high vacuum and ultra high vacuum applications.
Most of our hermetic feedthroughs include an integral rod that keeps the continuity of the fibre, resulting in low insertion loss and maintaining the hermeticity when the fibres are disconnected.
In some cases, however, where optical loss is critical, these standard feedthroughs cannot be used because of the attenuation created by the two connectors. The solution is to propose a feedthrough without fibre discontinuity, where the hermeticity is obtained directly on the fibre itself.
According to the level of hermeticity required, different technologies of sealing will be used. For hermeticity in the range of 10-2 the sealing is made directly on the fibre acrylate or tefzel buffer. For hermeticity going from 10-2 to 10-9 the sealing is made directly on the silica of the fibre cladding or possibly on the polyimide. Besides the usual optical parameters defining the fibre used, it is necessary to define precisely the following specifications that you may require:
- materials
- mechanical design
- level of hermeticity
- environment
- fibre length
- connectors at the fibre ends
If your application requires feeding a fibre, group of fibres, or electrical cable(s) through from one environment to another with pressures up to 1000 bars, then our feedthroughs would be ideal.
