Bidirectional Modules at 850 nm and 1310 nm
LASER COMPONENTS’ partner, PD-LD, now offers LED-based bidirectional WDM transmitter and receiver modules at optical windows of 850 nm and 1310 nm. These components have the ability to transmit and receive simultaneously at individual ‘windows’ from DC to 200 MHz.
With the PW85ST and PW13ST series BiDi modules, a fibre-coupled LED, fibre-coupled PIN photodiode, discrete fibre optical WDM, and two-stage optical isolator can all be replaced in one fell swoop. BiDi modules contain all these optical functions and save the user the additional time and effort involved in splicing the individual components together on a PCB. The modules are available as an ST board or as a panel mount receptacle. As part of laser class 1, these components can be considered eye safe.
When applying these small and compact modules in pairs, data can be transported
in both directions across a single 62.5/125 µm fibre. The operating current of each integrated 850nm and 1310 nm LED ranges from 50 to 100 mA. A suitable, low noise InGaAs PIN photodiode has been integrated into the receivers. With an operating temperature of -40°C to +85°C, these modules are appropriate for all industrial applications such as, for example, video data transmission or bidirectional WDM systems with a single fibre.
