Optimum Transmission at IR Wavelengths
Due to a high absorption above 2000 nm, classic glass fibers are not used to transmit the IR wavelengths generated by CO2 and Erbium:YAG lasers but rather special capillaries – so-called hollow-core or hollow-silica fibers. A silver halide coating inside the cavity serves as a transmission channel for light.
Hollow-core fibers for CO2 and Er:YAG lasers are available with cavity diameters of 300, 500, 750, and 1000 μm and can be fitted with various protective jackets and connectors upon customer request.
