Pure Silica SM Fibers

Thanks to their fluorinated coating, pure silica core SM fibers (SM SC) have a core of pure quartz glass without germanium doping.

Fluorinated Cladding

SM SC fibers are mainly used for the transmission of high laser power in demanding applications. Fibercore is a manufacturer that has developed a fluorinated cladding for this purpose and so that cores can be manufactured from pure silica. Darkening effects that occur with germanium-doped cores can thus be avoided.

Hydrogen-Rich Environments

The SM1250SC(9/125) and SM1500SC product versions have been specially developed for use in hydrogen-rich environments. When reacting with hydrogen, hydrogen darkening does not occur, and the silica core does not go blind.

Vis and UV Wavelengths

The SM300-SC and SM400-SC fiber versions are suitable for the transmission of wavelengths in the visible and ultraviolet spectrum. Unlike standard germanium-doped fibers, the silicon core prevents the photodarkening effect.
