Cavity Mirror / End Mirror

Cavity end mirrors are used to generate the laser beam in the resonator.

Resonator end mirrors, also known as cavity mirrors, are designed to have high reflectivity at the desired laser wavelength in order to maximize the efficiency of the laser.

Dielectric mirrors with high reflection values and very high damage thresholds

A resonator end mirror, also known as a laser cavity mirror, is an optical component that is used in a laser resonator. It reflects the laser beams passing through the resonator. They bounce back and forth between the mirrors several times to create a resonance and amplify the laser beam. Resonator end mirrors are designed to have high reflectivity at the desired laser wavelength to maximize the efficiency of the laser.

LASER COMPONENTS manufactures resonator end mirrors with a dielectric coating for high powers in the wavelength range from 248 nm to 3000 nm. Laser cavity mirrors are often optimized for a single wavelength and achieve the highest reflectivity values of greater than 99.99%.

It is also possible to produce designs for several wavelengths and wavelength ranges (e.g., to generate several wavelengths in one laser or to be able to use one optic for different lasers). Due to the different wavelengths, the individual reflectivity values of these mirrors are somewhat lower than for resonator end mirrors, which are only optimized for one wavelength.

The achievable reflectivity depends on the polarization and the angle of incidence, while the damage threshold depends on the required reflectivity. Typically, mirrors with an angle of incidence (AOI) = 0° are used in a laser resonator. If the mirror is used for an AOI greater than 10°, s- and p-polarized beams are reflected differently, which must be taken into account when designing the optical setups.

We take the reflectivity, the desired laser wavelength, the corresponding damage threshold (LiDT), and the requirements for the angle of incidence (AOI) into account when manufacturing customized resonator end mirrors for your individual application. We will be happy to advise you.
