FROG-based Measurement of Optical Pulses

There are only a few devices available that can master the measurement of pulses from 300 fs to 50 ps – and the IQFROG is one of them.

The IQFROG measures the pulse intensity and phase in both the spectral and temporal domains. This results in a complete pulse characterization and is an important instrument in the characterization of laser pulses for laser manufacturers, users, laboratories, universities, R&D, material processing, and telecommunication applications. With its long delay arm and high-resolution spectrometer, the IQFROG can measure chirped pulses up to 50 ps or up to 10 ps (if it is restricted due to transformation).

There are versions available at wavelengths of 1 µm and 1.5 µm.
In application, the IQFROG is ideal for the measurement of SEED laser pulses for chirped pulse amplification (CPA) at 1 µm, and the version at 1.5 µm is best for C band femtosecond and picosecond lasers.

FROG Functionality:

The measurement technology of the frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG) pulse analyzer is a spectrally-resolving, second-harmonic-generation (SHG) automated correlator. Sub-picosecond pulses can be resolved because this technology is not limited by the response time of the detector. At each delay position of the automated correlation function, a complete SHG spectrum is recorded simultaneously both in the spectral and temporal characteristics of the pulse. The two-dimensional plots of the SHG spectrum in a function of the delay are recorded in a spectrogram. In the evaluation of such a spectrogram, a quick mathematical algorithm is used to analyze the results and establish the characteristics of the pulse, including the pulse shape, spectrum, chirp, and group delay.

The IQFROG comes with an “all-in-one” optical pulse analyzer (OPA) software that controls optical pulses, measures, and prepares the calculations to the characteristics of the pulse – all with an intuitive graphical interface.
