Bon Appétit!

A highly eventful and successful year will be coming to an end. We have already met all of the goals we set for ourselves, and the entire LASER COMPONENTS Group can look back proudly on the most prosperous and significant year in terms of economic growth in the company’s history.

We have never before so intensively experienced in so many projects together with our customers and suppliers how optical technologies have taken off in more and more applications and are now such an integral part of our everyday private lives.
Because new projects in our sector take several months, and sometimes even years, before reaching the implementation phase, we can already say with certainty that this growth and development will continue; in fact, it will likely accelerate significantly in the coming years.
The driving forces in this respect include new medical applications, mechanical engineering, and the automobile industry, the latter two of which are the strongest branches in Germany. However, even in the field of telecommunications (where demand has stagnated over the past two decades at a continuously large production overcapacity), we have again seen the largest growth and new investments in larger infrastructure. Through its concentration on components and submodules, LASER COMPONENTS is, traditionally speaking, familiar with the different sectors and applications. The versatile fields of application in optical technologies inspire us again and again every day.
Thus, in our company newsletter, it is our intention to more intensively highlight different fields that you would not normally associate with laser technology or photonics.
Following thematic focuses on medicine, sports, security technology, and autonomous driving, we have focused this time around more on food and drink. What does photonics have to do with wine production? How can light protect us from germs? What do lasers make possible in the packaging industry?

Bon Appétit!

Yours,

Patrick Paul

Looking Forward to the 2017 Vintage

Rolf Bogen, enologist and owner of BOGEN WEINMANUFAKTUR, from the town of Grünstadt in the Palatinate region has promised wine connoisseurs that 2017 will be an excellent year. The Indian summer decelerated the harvest; the last grapes were picked at the beginning of October and have a high must weight. Cool nights kept the late-blooming assortments, such as Burgundy and Riesling, healthy; therefore, even small amounts produced high-quality yields. Wine connoisseurs may look forward to an excellent year with ripe, fruity white wines and portly, sophisticated red wines.

More than Just a Cafeteria: Lunch at LASER COMPONENTS

Food Holds the Body and Soul Together

It has always been said that good food not only fills you up, but it is also good for your spiritual equilibrium. Scientists have taken up this issue and come to the same conclusion after much research.
The common lunch at LASER COMPONENTS has been an integral part of the corporate culture since 1993. Unlike other companies, our employees do not have to pay for their visit to the cafeteria. “As practical as being located in an industrial park is for business reasons, it is quite difficult for employees to access a warm meal at lunchtime. This is why my father made the decision relatively early on to hire a cook and offer employees an ‘in-house’ solution,’” explains Patrick Paul, general manager at Laser Components. This offer was immediately received with open arms.

The lunch offered daily has another positive effect: This is a time when employees from different departments, who may not normally have many opportunities to interact, get a chance to see each other and meet up. This is an excellent chance to discuss certain topics outside of official meetings. And of course, it is a great opportunity to discuss topics “unrelated to company business,” such as vacation experiences and weekend soccer matches.

Patrick Paul is convinced: “Our cafeteria is not only a place for collective food intake, it is much more the social heart of our company.”

Brain Doping
Did you know that the brain is responsible for approximately 20% of our daily energy consumption?
Competitive athletes are well aware of how to increase their athletic performance through proper nutrition; however, there is still some controversy over how food affects brain activity:: performance lows, fatigue, and lack of concentration can be avoided by eating right. Admittedly, this will not lead to the development of a superbrain, but it is the key to increasing stress resilience and preventing depression. This is the approach taken by the European study “MooDFood,” which will be completed in 2020.
