It´s FAT - Fitel`s S178LDF

Optical fibers are used to conduct light. In material processing, industrial applications, and medical technology, laser light is brought to the point where it is needed – independent of the location of the laser source. High-power laser system manufacturers also use optical fibers for optical pumping, power transmission, and, of course, in fiber lasers.

Large laser systems made by German manufacturers are sold worldwide and often installed on a permanent basis. Repairs and maintenance must, therefore, be carried out on site at the customer’s facility. Damaged fibers lead to quality losses in the laser or even to system failure. In high-power lasers, large-diameter fibers (LDFs) are used that have a core diameter of 100 µm to 1 mm.
To connect the fibers permanently, they are spliced. In production, expensive, stationary, table-sized splicers are used. For use in servicing, of course, these splicers cannot be brought to the customer: Alternatives are, therefore, required for on-site applications in order to carry out maintenance and repairs quickly all over the world. Service technicians not only have to be on site quickly, but they must also have the appropriate tools handy. Imagine the costs involved in downtimes by automobile manufacturers where, for example, laser systems are used to weld metal sheets...

Compact, Suited for LDF Fibers, and Surprisingly Inexpensive!
Last year, FITEL introduced a splicer for large-core fibers that can be easily used when on the road: The S178LDF fits in a small case. It is no larger than an installation splicer and can even be operated with a rechargeable battery! Compared with laboratory units, the S178LDF is inexpensive and can splice fibers with an outer diameter of up to 450 µm.

Laser Manufacturers Attest to This Excellent Solution
This device is an advanced development of the three-axis splicer that has exhibited fail-safe operation in the telecommunications sector for many years. Renowned laser manufacturers have taken the leap toward mobile splicers and are satisfied across the board.
Due to the significantly lower investment costs, more devices can be stocked, and service teams can plan their routes more flexibly. The baggage is also significantly reduced.

Because these devices are designed for use under harsh environmental conditions and rough transportation conditions, damage during transportation can be ruled out almost completely. The mechanical stress of transportation by land or air does not pose a risk of misalignment. Can you still remember? Expensive and sensitive laboratory units had to be checked as hand luggage to reduce the risk of damage.
