The new splicer FITEL S124M12 was developed by Furukawa Electric in such a way that the fiber-guiding V-groove can be easily replaced. This allows it to be quickly and easily converted from a single fiber solution to a system for processing fiber ribbons. With the appropriate fiber holders, the versatile S124M12 is suitable for splicing ribbons with two, four, eight, or twelve fibers and a 200 µm or 250 μm cladding, as well as for processing rollable ribbon cables. Of course, single fibers can still be spliced as well.
The touchpad with its easy-to-use user interface and the automatic correction of fiber offset both support efficient work on site. Simple data transmission and control via Wi-Fi is available as an option.
With splicing times of 13 to 15 seconds, these robust devices are suitable for working on infrastructures with high data throughput, where many fibers have to be laid within a short amount of time. In data centers, metro networks, and the 5G roll-out in particular, operators are increasingly relying on such multi-fiber cables (ribbon fibers). Rollable ribbon fibers especially are becoming increasingly popular.
