LASER COMPONENTS has widely expanded its product range to include a number of tools for fiber processing: from stripping and cleaving fibers to cleaning and splicing to measuring with solutions for use in the laboratory and the field. In order to offer our customers such a wide selection, we entered business agreements with many new suppliers.
Here we will introduce our product range and premium suppliers.
Fiber Processing
Fiber Strippers
Fibers are protected by a buffer that has to be removed before the fiber can be processed. Mechanical fiber strippers are inexpensive, but the thermal strippers offered by Fitel and 3SAE are more gentle on the fiber. With automatic strippers, not only can the coating at the end of the fiber be removed but anywhere else along the fiber as well.
Cleaning Fibers
After the buffer is removed, the fibers have to be cleaned. In addition to manual cleaning products, the ultrasound cleaner from 3SAE is available for automatic cleaning.
Both 3SAE and the ring-of-fire technology, which makes it possible to use fusion splicing technology for fibers that have a diameter of up to 2.5 mm, belong together.
Cleavers
Fiber optic cleavers are required for high-quality fiber breaks. We offer such units from 3SAE and Fitel for use in the laboratory and the field.
Splicers
The range of fusion splicers is particularly wide: 3-axes, V-groove, and ribbon splicers – all you need for use in the laboratory and the field is available from Fitel.
Furukawa Fitel is most well-known for its fusion splicers for installation and production applications. They are easy to use and designed for high throughput.
Fiber Polishing
Fiber polishing is applied in many areas: the portfolio extends from the polishing of bare fibers (3SAE) to the polishing of connectors (Seikoh).
Seikoh Giken is the market leader in polishing machines for production-level fiber optic connectors – Seikoh’s highlight is MTP polishing in high packing density.
Microscopes and Interferometers
Microscopes for use in the field, as well as interferometers and benchtop microscopes, are available from the manufacturers AFL, DATA-PIXEL, and JDSU to subsequently test the optical fibers and connector end faces.
DATA-PIXEL offers devices and software for fiber inspection and the interferometric measurement of connectors and connector end faces – the industrial standard for fiber optic connectors in telecom, datacom, and medical technology.
Fiber Optic Measurement Devices
Optical Sources
Laser and LED sources for field and laboratory applications are available from AFL, JDSU, and Optotest.
AFL manufactures compact fiber optic measurement devices with a particularly long battery life for field applications.
JDSU is the leading supplier of communication technology in the optical, fiber optic, and Ethernet field and protocol measurement technology. The modular platforms offer much greater flexibility.
Optotest offers measurement devices primarily for stationary applications – this includes benchtop units and racks; handheld devices are also available.
Power Meters
Power meters from AFL, JDSU, and Optotest are used to measure the optical power level in optical networks. In combination with a light source, the insertion loss can also be tested.
OTDRs
The travel path and reflection characteristics of the light in optical fibers are determined using OTDRs. We carry such measurement devices from AFL and JDSU in our product range.
IL/RL Units
Attenuation measurement devices for use in the laboratory and the field are available from AFL, JDSU, and Optotest for the measurement of insertion loss and/or return loss.
Dispersion
JDSU offers appropriate modules for the determination of chromatic dispersion and polarization-mode dispersion.
COSA/OSA
Optical spectrum analyses can be carried out using COSA and OSA modules. These modules are available from JDSU.
