Compact Splicers for Large-core Fibers

With ring-of-fire technology, the new FITEL S185ROF and S185PMROF models achieve precise, high-quality splices even with fiber diameters over 500 µm. Three electrodes generate a plasma that forms a “ring of fire” around the fiber. Thus, the splice is heated quickly and in a controlled and contact-free manner. The PMROF version also has an integrated rotating device for reproducibly high quality for non-rotationally symmetrical glass fibers (e.g., polarization-maintaining fibers).

Just as with all the S185 series devices, these two models are designed as handy, cost-effective, and easy-to-operate solutions for laboratory and production applications where often only clearly defined splices are performed. They cover a wide range of non-PM and PM fibers and support diameters between 125 µm and 800 µm.
